13 Hands Equine Rescue, a nonprofit based in Clinton Corners, Dutchess County, is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating at-risk horses while providing equine-assisted healing experiences for people. Since 2015, the organization has supported both horse rehabilitation and the emotional wellbeing of individuals through programs that foster meaningful connections between horses and humans. Their new indoor education center, set to open this September, will enable year-round access to these services and expand offerings to include public classes on equine care, horsemanship workshops, and educational lectures.
The indoor center, developed in partnership with Garret’s Promise and community donors, will enhance visibility and adoption opportunities for rescued horses and provide a safe space for healing and training. Programs like Meditation With the Herd and Soft Landings serve diverse groups such as veterans, caregivers, and at-risk youth, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to mental health, personal growth, and community healing. The facility aims to be an inclusive environment fostering connection and restoration for both horses and people.
