A 12-year-old horseback rider was injured after falling off her horse in a remote area on the north side of Mount Diablo. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District located the girl and called in the sheriff’s department’s STARR3 helicopter crew for a rescue.
A tactical flight officer was lowered to her location on the trail and airlifted her up the hillside to an awaiting ambulance. The girl was then transported to a local hospital for treatment.
