12-Year-Old Berkeley Hughes Leads Youth Sweep at Grand Lake Skijoring

At the recent Grand Lake Skijoring event, 12-year-old rider Berkeley Hughes led a remarkable performance in the Youth Skijoring division, securing both first and second places alongside young skiers Weston Brehm (10) and Gabriel Easley (8). Riding her experienced 27-year-old horse El Guapo, Berkeley demonstrated exceptional horsemanship and versatility, impressing spectators with fast, clean runs and teamwork. She also pulled local snowboarding talent Quentin “Q” Hydle during the event, showcasing her skill and composure across multiple runs.

Skijoring, a winter sport combining skiing and horseback riding, demands precise timing and trust between horse, rider, and skier. Berkeley’s success, alongside younger teammates, highlights the growing talent and dedication within the local youth skijoring community. Their achievements serve as an inspiring example for other young athletes in the region, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, grit, and passion in this challenging sport.
